Nurse intro:

GIVE 'EM FIVE A DAY!!

91% of kids ages 6-11 do not meet the 5-a-day fruit and vegetable recommendation.  Eating at least 2 fruits and 3 vegetables every day is important because they provide essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and other components that may protect kids from future health problems such as heart disease and cancer.  To help your child get five a day, here are some helpful hints...

START THEM OFF RIGHT. Kids who eat breakfast are more likely to meet their daily vitamin needs AND do better in school!  Add strawberries to cereal or add banana slices to a piece of toast with peanut butter.

SNEAK THEM IN.  Add grated carrots or chopped sweet peppers to pasta sauce; toss dried fruit into salads; bake quick breads using pumpkin, zucchini or bananas.

KEEP THEM HANDY.  Stock your refrigerator with fresh fruits such as grapes, apples, and pears for a quick and convenient snack or buy baby carrots that are pre-washed and pre-peeled; keep fruits and veggies on an easy to reach shelf in your refrigerator.

Keep watching the web site, under nurses notes, for helpful information.

This fall when your kids are cleaning out their closets, would you consider donating a few things to the nurse's office?   This past year we were able to help kids who had an accident, slid down a wet slide or had a bloody nose get into clean, dry clothes for the remainder of the school day.  Below is a wish list of what is needed to provide this service again next school year.

Size 4-6     Boys & Girls pants (windpants or sweatpants work best for all body types)
        (XS)        T-shirts

Size 7-8    Girls pants and shorts
        (Small)    T-shirts
Size 9-10    Boys & Girls pants
        (Med)        T-shirts

Size 16    Boys & Girls pants

Thanks for anything you might be able to donate.
