WELCOME TO THE MEDIA CENTER Grand Island Senior High Media Center Mission & Goals The GISH Media Center is designed to be a comprehensive support to the school's instructional program. The Media Center provides a wide range of materials, inservice, and support to all students and staff. Our mission is to facilitate effective, independent use of information and resources while maintaining and encouraging a lifelong love affair with reading. Inservice on information researching skills are a product of collaboration between the media specialist and the classroom teacher. These skills are integrated and utilized within the curriculum. Inservice participants receive instruction before and during research activities that is designed to meet district and state media skills standards. These skills are then reinforced during subsequent visits to the Media Center. All students and staff are invited to utilize the media center for academic, curricular, and instructional support as well as for independent reading. Integration Specialist Katrina Rother Integration Specialist Julie Hehnke LAN Manager Kevin Pfefferle Media Secretary Joann Ruzicka Hours Hours change starting October 29th Monday - Thursday 7:00 am-4:30 pm Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm **Exceptions** early dismissal days & preholiday days the MC closes when school is dismissed Resources The Media Center offers and extensive collection of print and non-print resources including nonfiction, reference and fiction books, magazines/periodicals, daily newspapers, and online databases. The Media Center's non-fiction resources have been selected with the intent to support the school's instructional program/curriculum. Main Library Computers This area will be for "drop-in" use. Students with an open period or a presigned pass from the MC staff are welcome. Students will be required to show their picture identification and their word of the day definition at the sign-in desk as well as for material check out. Labs 553/564 These areas will be for class computer use only. Teachers may reserve time in either lab at the circulation desk. Circulation Policies Our circulation system is computerized. Students MUST use their student identification cards to check out materials. The list below explains our check out policies concerning specific materials: Reference books Overnight only** Current Magazines (plastic folders) MC use only Back Issues - Magazines 2 weeks Nonfiction and Fiction books 2 weeks **Reference books are due BEFORE 1st period on the date due Overdue materials are subject to a $.10 fine per day per item Library Material Recommendation Form |
