This site loads quickly and allows you to move from the reciprocal teaching site to other reading strategy sites. It is arranged in a locical order and in a question/answer type format starting with a definition. It does have a suggestion for an implementation activity. The site was last updated in November of 2001, has a contact person for the site and lists sources. San Diego County Office of Eduation This site loads quickly and is also in a question/answer format. It provides some basic background for reciprocal teaching and a section on the support that teachers need to start and continue this strategy. It does mention a digest that teachers should have that includes graphic organizers for the components of reciprocal teaching, I was unable to locate the specific name of that digest. It did list other sources that may be used. It was posted in 1995 but the information is consistent with the other sites reviewed.North Central Regional Educational Laboratory This site loads quickly and starts with the definition and purpose of reciprocal teaching. It lists the components and defines them as well. It does give a little information about a study conducted in 1985 and the favorable results from that study. There is a contact person listed along with references for information used. This site addresses the key concepts of reciprocal reading in bulleted form and has an outline for how to conduct a reciprocal teaching group. The definition of literal questioning and inferential questioning would be especially helpful to have in order to teach students about the type of questioning they need to do in their groups. The site loads quickly, was last updated in 2000 and reflects similar information from other sites on reciprocal reading. New Zealand Ministry of Education This is a quick loading, current(March 2002),bulleted resource. It does not have a step-by-step activity on how to implement this strategy, but has troubleshooting ideas and administration tips embedded in the site.It is an efficient site with well referenced general information on reciprocal teaching. The teaching tips, though not extensive, would be especially helpful for someone just implementing the strategy. The fact that the site includes what thoughtful readers do, is a good reminder of what effective readers should look like. The information used is consistent with the other sites reviewed. This site is intended for use by teachers of grades 2-3. It has cards that can be duplicated for students to fill in that allow them to walk step-by-step through the components of reciprocal reading and record information from their group discussion. As a guide in the initial implementation of reciprocal teaching it would be valuable for all students. Obviously the educator would want to create a more sophisticated version of the cards as the students become proficient at conducting reciprocal teaching groups.
