Performance Task

Task Title: All About Me
Subject:Language Arts and Technology
Designer: Kathy Thompson/Diane Meier

Introduction
The students will take digital photos, write poetry and each create a page for a slide show to be shown to parents during conferences.

Content standards/understandings assessed through this task

Task Description
Students will create a slide show using a poem about themselves and a digital photo. The slide show will be shown to the parents in the form of a slide show.

Task Directions
Students will write a descriptive poem about themselves using the Haiku pattern. They will then take a digital photo of a classmate. Afterwards each student will import their picture into an Appleworks document and create a frame to be used along with a poem which has been word processed by them. The students will help crop and save their pictures in a slide show format.

Students will produce a group slide show.

Teacher reflections
Students were very proud of the photo/poetry slide  show.  The parents viewed it at Parent Teacher Conferences.  It was a manageable project which integrated technology and language arts.
