Grand Island Public Schools Task Title: All About Me
Subject:Language Arts and TechnologyDesigner: Kathy Thompson/Diane Meier Introduction The students will take digital photos, write poetry and each create a page for a slide show to be shown to parents during conferences. Content standards/understandings assessed through this task Technology Standards 3.1 Word Processing 3.1 1 Enter and delete text 3.28 Capture digital images and insert into document 3.27 Edit and manipulate graphics Language Arts Standards Writing Traits and Processes 2.1 Produce work for publication 2.1.3.4 Punctuation, Use commas in a series 2.2.5 Compose various forms of poetry Task Description Students will create a slide show using a poem about themselves and a digital photo. The slide show will be shown to the parents in the form of a slide show. Task Directions Students will write a descriptive poem about themselves using the Haiku pattern. They will then take a digital photo of a classmate. Afterwards each student will import their picture into an Appleworks document and create a frame to be used along with a poem which has been word processed by them. The students will help crop and save their pictures in a slide show format. Description of student product(s)/performance(s) which will provide evidence of learning Students will produce a group slide show. Criteria for evaluation of student products/performances Link to sample of student work Diamonte Resources needed Digital camera Computers Teacher reflections Students were very proud of the photo/poetry slide show. The parents viewed it at Parent Teacher Conferences. It was a manageable project which integrated technology and language arts. |
