Performance Task Template
Task Title: The Life of a President
Subject: Language Arts
Designer: Coleen Bandemer, Jan Vavricek and Lisa Cunningham
Introduction : The United States of America has had many
outstanding presidents. Which President impressed you and
why? Students will research and create a Presidential
Report. Students will develop an understanding of their
president≠s accomplishments and background information.

Task Description
Students will research a president using reference materials and the
Grolier Online Resources. After completing the research questions they
will complete a story map on Inspirations using phrases about their
president. From the story map students will write a
Presidential Report and present their report to the class.
Students will design a presentation aid.
Task Directions
1. Students will select a president to research.
2. Students will answer the Presidential Questionnaire
using reference materials and the Grolier Online Resources for their
answers.
3. After they have collected all of their data the students will create a story map using Inspirations.
4. Using their story map students will write their Presidential
Report and then put the report on their AppleWorks document.
5. Students will design a glyph as their presentation aid.
6. Students will present their Presidential Report and glyph during an oral presentation to the class.
Description of student product(s)/performance(s) which will provide evidence of learning.
Students will create an Inspiration Story Map which will include
phrases from the Presidential Profile Questionnaire. Each student
will then write their Presidential Report from the story map and put it
on their document folder using AppleWorks. Students will design a
Presidental glyph.

Teacher reflections
Students enjoyed creating their story map, glyph and
report. They also seemed eager to get items completed
so they could use the lap tops for word processing. Classmates
were attentive during oral presentations.
