Students should be able to place a note head on the correct line or in the correct space by numbering up from the bottom of the staff.

Look at note heads written on lines and spaces of a staff on a white board. Copy the same note heads on staff paper.

*Teacher Reflections
Terminology is VERY important when talking about lines and spaces of note heads. When a child is told to write their name on a line, it would actually be in a musical space. It is easily confused  if terminology is not consistent. Therefore, notes on a line are refered to as "line notes" and NOT notes on a line. Space notes are not as easily confused because they are normally referred to as being "in the space."
