Introduction: We are preparing to write Haiku as a part Poetry
Month. Students brainstorm different ideas and styles in an open
discussion setting. Students are to imagine a scenery with various
spring details and be ready to describe it in writing.
Content standards/understandings assessed through this task: Part of Speech, convention, speaking
Task Description: Students construct their own poem following the rule in Writing a Haiku .
Line 1- 7 syllables
Line 2- 5 syllables
Line 3- 7 syllables
Task Directions: 1. Students will write a noun/s of their choice for the first line containing 7 syllables
2. Students will write a verb/s plus ing containing 5 syllables
3. Students will write an adjective/s containing 7 syllables
Description of student product(s)/performance(s) which will provide evidence of learning
Completed poem with Haiku format with matching illustrations.
